Introduction

Southampton City Judo Club is a Judo sports club based in central Southampton in Hampshire, UK.

We teach and train people to participate in the Olympic Sport of Judo. Judo consists of throwing and groundwork techniques. There is no striking in Judo, just throwing, strangles, holds and elbow locks. Our head coach is Lance Wicks. He has a BSc. in Sports Performance from the University of Bath. He is a EJU Level 5 coach , EJU commissioner and a member of the EJU and IJF computer teams. Founded in 2010, the club has already become an active member of the Hampshire Judo community. Based in central Southampton with the support of SportSolent and the British Judo Association it has in 2012 delivered coaching to national level, enjoyable Judo for novices and community outreach for disadvantaged youth in the city. We welcome adult beginners (in fact they make up our largest group of members). We have a supply of clean spare Judo jackets that you are welcome to wear on your first evening with us. Please contact club coach ( Lance Wicks) if you have questions, or simply come down and watch or join in on a training session.
