Kids Judo

Returning in January 2025 is our kids Judo programme.

Judo is a form of sport, physical education and mental development. Popular in British schools and universities (including both Oxford and Cambridge). In Japan schools have permanent Judo facilities.

Judo does not include any striking techniques. It requires partnership with others. Aggressive behavior is quickly reduced. The close physical contact and trust required effectively encourage respect for others and for self.

Enjoyed by both Boys and girls, Judo builds muscles and coordination as well as friendships and valuable life skills.

Learning “break falls” is becoming a vital life skill. Everyone should learn this skill, just like swimming.

Judo is an incredibly valuable activity for children, offering a unique combination of physical, mental, and social benefits that help children grow in a fun and engaging way. As a martial art, Judo emphasizes balance, coordination, and discipline while teaching kids how to defend themselves and others in a controlled and respectful environment. By learning throws, holds, and grappling techniques, children not only develop strength and flexibility but also improve their overall body awareness and spatial skills—key attributes for their athletic development.

One of the standout features of Judo is how it fosters resilience and perseverance. Kids quickly learn that success in Judo comes from practice, focus, and patience, rather than just innate talent. The sport’s emphasis on mutual respect and working with an opponent, rather than against them, builds confidence and encourages teamwork. Children also gain a sense of accomplishment and pride as they progress through belts, which helps to instill a growth mindset and a sense of achievement.

In addition to the mental and emotional benefits, Judo is an excellent way to keep kids physically active. The sport provides a full-body workout that enhances cardiovascular health, strengthens muscles, and promotes agility. Regular participation improves stamina, motor skills, and overall fitness, all while having fun and learning new skills. Judo is also a fantastic way to introduce kids to the joy of competition in a safe and supportive environment, teaching them how to set goals, work hard, and respect others both on and off the mat.

Lastly, Judo is incredibly social, giving children the opportunity to make new friends and be part of a community. The positive atmosphere in a Judo club helps kids develop social skills like communication, teamwork, and empathy. With its blend of skill development, health benefits, and enjoyment, Judo is an ideal choice for parents looking to help their kids become stronger, healthier, and more confident individuals. Joining a Judo club can be the start of a lifelong passion that benefits both body and mind!
