BUCS preparations, week 7 2017

This week (starting February 13th) marks the final preparations for the British Universities Championships (BUCS), and our week looks like this:

  • Monday: Randori at Ringwood Judo Club (leaving St Marys 7:30pm)
  • Tuesday: Randori at St Marys (8pm)
  • Wednesday: Rest
  • Thursday: Shiai Simulation at St Marys (scoreboards etc)
  • Friday: Travel and weigh in
  • Saturday: Compete
  • Sunday: Rest.

This week we will work hard on Monday and Tuesday, then dial it back for the rest of the week so that those competing in Sheffield do not risk injury and feel fresh on Saturday.

Visitors and visiting!

This week has been fantastic for the club, we visited our friends at Ringwood Judo Club on Monday, then had a visit from our friends from Southampton University Judo Club on Thursday.

It’s terrific to have the chance to do Judo with new people, and it always teaches us something new.

This Sunday we shall be exploring the Kaeshi no kata further and next week along with some good randori we shall continue to try every technique in the go kyo.

Randori is the game!

Recently we started learning the Kaeshi no kata, so on Tuesday we took it and tried to learn the same counter throws via randori.

One of the great things about learning Judo is randori. Randori is a game as much as a learning tool.

During our Tuesday and Thursday randori sessions we try techniques. We try apply our techniques against a non passive partner, against someone who won’t just fall, who we must actually apply our waza correctly on.

Which sounds very serious, but actually means we get to play the game of Judo. My partner tries to throw me, I try and throw them. I try all.my “tricks” and use my guile and cunning to catch them. All the while they try and do the same to me.

Come down and join the fun.
